Race in furious Seoul City of 1998!
Seoul Vibe is a Korean film of Car-chasing genre released on Netflix on August 26, 2022. Although there were many disagreements whether it was good or not, it was seemingly successful to some extent on the looks of Netflix viewing time.
Beginning Story
Seoul of 1998, when everyone was excited ahead of the Olympics…
The corruption-ridden former president tries to steal slush funds while the public was encapsulated with the Olympics and recruits a team to transfer the slush funds.
Supreme Team that presented challenge to be the team. As the team accepts the slush fund investigation operation of an enthusiastic prosecutor, they began the race in the fiery Seoul led by the best drifter Dong-wook (Played by Yoo Ah-in).
Review
The charm of each member of Supreme team in consist of various characters is integral, however, character’s personalities other than the main character Dong-wook is somewhat under the veil. In the movie, a distinguished role only fulfillable for certain character was not given, and the harmony and synergy between the characters were also lacking.
If you look at the movie with the ‘high standard’ expecting a car-chasing movie, there are feedbacks that the car-chasing scene lacks tension and speed. However, the part of showing racing through the alleys and downtown areas of Seoul is impressive, and the tempo control was done well in conjunction with the Olympic festival.
Also, it incorporates a black comedy element that satirizes the former president’s corruption and thus it is worth watching at least as a time killing movie.
Best Scene
The scene of expanding the production into the air away from the race on the ground shown on the second half of the movie was impressive. This scene cannot be described in detail as it can be a spoiler to the movie, but I pick this scene as the best scene of the movie.
Extra Story
In collaboration with McDonald’s, McDonald has appeared on the background of the movie. Indeed, McDonald released a limited menu item of ’88 Seoul Beef Burger’ as a collaboration product.
Gaichi, a rival of Dongwook, was played by renown Korean hip-hop artist Song Min-ho. It was his first acting trial, but it was criticized for his poor acting skills.
Actor Yoo Ah-in playing the main character Dong-wook is one of the representative actors in Korea and appeared in the Netflix Drama ‘Hellbound’ in 2022.
