Beginning story

Seo-yeon, who came home after a long time, calls Young-sook, a strange woman, on an old phone. Young-sook is a woman who lived in the same house 20 years ago, and she builds friendship with Young-sook by talking on the phone continuously.

Then one day, Seo-yeon and Young-sook make dangerous choices that change each other's lives. Young-sook saves Seo-yeon's father, who died 20 years ago, and Seo-yeon tells Young-sook's future. However, Young-sook is becoming overreacting, changing the past, and starting to threaten Seo-yeon of the future..!

Review

It set 'different characters', in the 'same place', arguing over the '20-year gap', and it maximized tension.

It is a common setting for past characters and present characters to commune, but the actions of past characters affect the future (present), and it is interesting to use it as a horror/thriller. Especially, Jeon Jong-seo's charisma, who acts Young-sook, adds the suspense.

For the purpose, there is a regret that the present Seo-yeon cannot affect the past Young-sook, so it cannot be a direct confrontation, so it creates more tension.

Extra story

The original film is a 'The Caller', which is British-Puerto Rico collaboration in 2011. However, it has been modified in large part, so there are many differences from the original film except for the large frame.

Director Lee Chung-hyun and actor Jeon Jong-seo said they were lovers in 2021. The two worked together earlier in the short film 'Bargain' in 2015.

The drama 'Bargain', based on the above film, was released in 2022. Jeon Jong-seo stars as the main character like the original one, but the director has changed. Unfortunately, the drama 'Bargain' can be seen on Korean OTT 'Tving', not on Netflix.

Jeon Jong-seo starred in the 2022 Netflix drama Money Heist: Korea.

'The Call' was originally scheduled to be released in theaters in March 2020. However, it was canceled due to the Covid-19 crisis, and it was exclusively released on Netflix.
