"Our Blues" is a Korean drama that aired on tvN in April 2022 and can also be watched on Netflix. It is an omnibus drama consisting of 14 characters, and all the characters are exuberant and shine through all the episodes.
Setting
It captures our common story of living in Jeju Island, a beautiful island in Korea. It contained conflicts and love in universal relationships not only between men and women, but also parents, friends, and brothers, and made you sympathize, cry, and laugh to them.
Review
All 14 characters are stand out, so there is no hole in the episode. In each episode, each character's extreme conflict situation continues, and since I can sympathize with all the characters, it made them look at the situation itself sadly and everyone cheer.
It created a conflict element as digging very deeply into the situations that could happen in a daily life or around, so it made me more able to empathize and immerse myself.
When I watched the first episode only, it was not easy to concentrate because there were too many characters and the tempo of the story was slow, but I was able to fall into the pain and sadness of each character as I moved on to the second and third episodes.
Omnibus dramas are not the preferred way in Korea, and there were few successful works, but the "Our Blues" broke the prejudice. tvN's highest ratings were around 15%, and it ranked second in the viewing time rankings of non-English-speaking works on Netflix. Personally, I'd like to pick it as the best drama of 2022 as well.
Extra Story
Shin Mina and Kim Woo-bin, who are in an open relationship, appeared in one work for the first time, and there is little contact between the two in the drama. Shin Mina has a romance with Lee Byung-hun and Kim Woo-bin with Han Ji-min.
Actually, Jung Eun-hye, who suffers from Down's syndrome, and Lee So-byeol, a deaf actor, acted the character who suffers from those disorder in the drama.
Writer Noh Hee-kyung was originally preparing for another work but filming overseas was postponed due to COVID-19, so she wrote this drama "Our Blues" instead.
